Vendor Characteristics
Section titled “Vendor Characteristics”AWS — Broad Service Portfolio
Section titled “AWS — Broad Service Portfolio”AWS, which grew out of Amazon’s e-commerce infrastructure, has a mature service portfolio. It often launches new service categories early and has a broad global community and partner ecosystem.
- Core strength: Service variety, number of global regions, abundant community/documentation
- Differentiators: Amazon Bedrock (evolving into an AI OS), launch of the Nova 2 model, granular IAM
- Caveats: With 200+ services, initial selection can take time. Check the egress cost structure in advance.
Azure — Strong Enterprise Integration
Section titled “Azure — Strong Enterprise Integration”Azure integrates tightly with Microsoft’s enterprise software ecosystem (Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Dynamics 365). Organizations already running a Microsoft environment tend to have a relatively clear adoption path.
- Core strength: Microsoft 365/AD integration, hybrid (Azure Arc, Azure Stack), Enterprise Agreements (EA)
- Differentiators: Microsoft Foundry (formerly Azure AI Foundry), in-country DR where a same-country region pair exists, GitHub/VS Code integration
- Caveats: Service rebranding happens frequently, so verify current naming in official docs. Service availability can vary by region.
Google Cloud — AI/ML and Data Analytics
Section titled “Google Cloud — AI/ML and Data Analytics”Google Cloud, which evolved from Google’s search and data-processing infrastructure, differentiates itself in AI/ML and large-scale data analytics. It has a distinctive design philosophy including a global VPC and SUD (automatic sustained-use discounts).
- Core strength: AI/ML (Gemini Enterprise, TPU), data analytics (BigQuery), containers (GKE)
- Differentiators: Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform (formerly Vertex AI), global VPC (not region-bound), Shared Fate security model
- Caveats: For enterprise adoption, check support plans and local-language resource availability in advance.
OCI — Databases and Price Competitiveness
Section titled “OCI — Databases and Price Competitiveness”OCI, which extends Oracle’s database expertise into the cloud, has strengths for Oracle DB workloads. Its egress cost policy can be advantageous for multicloud configurations, and it offers dedicated bare-metal instances.
- Core strength: Autonomous Database, Oracle DB optimization, free egress allowance (10TB/month)
- Differentiators: OCI Enterprise AI (formerly OCI Generative AI), 10TB/month free egress, Dedicated Region (OCI installed at the customer’s data center)
- Caveats: For workloads outside Oracle DB, check the service catalog and third-party ecosystem size in advance.
Cross-Vendor Multicloud Interoperability Services
Section titled “Cross-Vendor Multicloud Interoperability Services”Major CSPs compete with each other while also responding to customer demand for multicloud by launching direct interoperability services between vendors. As more customers avoid going all-in on a single vendor, the strategy of “letting your service run on a competitor’s infrastructure too” is spreading.

Caveats When Comparing Performance
Section titled “Caveats When Comparing Performance”It’s difficult to make a simple network performance comparison across vendors and conclude “vendor X is faster.” Performance depends heavily on the following factors:
- Region location — Choosing a region close to your users matters more than vendor selection.
- Backbone network — Each vendor’s global backbone architecture differs.
- Workload characteristics — Results differ depending on whether bandwidth, latency, or packet throughput matters most.
- Measurement conditions — Results vary by time of day, ISP, and measurement tool.

Common Mistakes
Section titled “Common Mistakes”- “The vendor with the highest market share is the best choice” — Market share is just a general-purpose indicator, separate from whether it’s optimal for your workload. Service fit and team capability matter more.
- “If the service names match, the features match too” — Even equivalent services across vendors differ in feature scope, constraints, and pricing model. Always check the details in the official documentation.
- “A single vendor comparison table is enough to decide” — A comparison table is only a starting point. A PoC, cost simulation, and team feedback are needed to reach a practical decision.
Checklist
