Section titled “Overview”This section covers the regulatory landscape encountered when adopting and operating cloud in the Singapore market. While the earlier vendor-neutral documents covered globally common architecture, this guide focuses on Singapore’s own certification schemes and laws.
Despite its small domestic market as a city-state, Singapore is a hub where major hyperscalers — AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and Oracle Cloud — base their ASEAN regional headquarters and regions. Thanks to its mature legal system, English-language business environment, and a policy stance that prizes regional interoperability, such as the ASEAN framework for cross-border cloud computing (Trusted Data Corridors), many global enterprises choose Singapore as their gateway into the ASEAN market. However, unlike neighboring countries (such as Indonesia and Vietnam) that are strengthening data localization, Singapore has taken an open model, so regional design should also account for country-by-country regulatory variance.
